McMaster University Welcome Week: A Whirlwind of Fun, Friends, and Firsts!
What a week it’s been at McMaster University! The campus was buzzing as thousands of new students were welcomed with open arms, thanks to the tireless efforts of Welcome Week Reps, volunteers, faculty, and staff. From move-in day to the legendary air bands, this week was one for the books.

Welcome Week is the ultimate crash course in all things Mac. With over 150 activities, events, concerts, and workshops, the newest cohort of Marauders got a taste of university life that’s equal parts informative, helpful, and wildly fun. Seriously, if you tried to be at every event, you probably defied the laws of time and space.
As the last week of August rolled in, so did the new students, bringing an electric energy to the campus that’s been building all month long. And with classes just around the corner, what better way to kick off the academic year than a week full of excitement and new beginnings?
The fun began with Move-in Weekend, where Welcome Week Reps were on hand to help first-years lug their belongings into residence in true Mac fashion—unforgettable and probably a little sweaty. From there, the next seven days were a blur of programming and events designed to help students meet new friends, get to know the campus, and start feeling at home.
This week wasn’t just about fun (though there was plenty of it); it was also about inclusion, belonging, wellness, and safety. With all these elements at the forefront, every student was supported as they began their journey at McMaster.
But let’s not forget the international and exchange students who made their way to Hamilton from all corners of the globe. Thanks to the Airport Welcome program, student volunteers were there to greet them at Pearson International Airport, offering friendly guidance, answering questions, and helping them get settled in Canada. The program, a collaboration between McMaster’s Student Success Centre, the City of Hamilton, Mohawk College, and Columbia International College, ensured that these new arrivals had a smooth transition into their new lives as Hamiltonians.
So, as the dust settles on Welcome Week, here’s to the start of an unforgettable adventure at McMaster University. The friendships formed, the memories made, and the experiences shared this week are just the beginning of what promises to be an incredible journey. Welcome to the Mac family!
