Road Work Alert: Major Arterial Roads in West Hamilton Down to One Lane Until December.
Here's the lowdown:
Starting July 8, the City of Hamilton will reduce parts of Cannon Street and York Boulevard to a single lane in each direction. This means more time for those epic in-car karaoke sessions, but also potential travel delays, so plan accordingly.
Where's the Work Happening?
York Boulevard: Reduced to a single lane between Dundurn Street North and Caroline Street.
Cannon Street West: Reduced to a single lane between James Street North and Queen Street North.
The lane reduction will last until December, when the project will take a winter break (because even road work deserves a holiday). Work will pick up again in the spring with a projected completion date of August 2025.
What to Expect:
Motorists and Transit Riders: Expect delays. Allow for extra travel time and maybe pack a snack.
HSR Routes: Westbound routes through the area will face some detours.
Cyclists: Bike lanes will be rerouted, so keep an eye out for those new paths.
Streets Affected:
Several streets won't have access to York Boulevard during the construction, including:
Oxford Street
Ray Street North
Magill Street
Crooks Street
Inchbury Street
Rolphs Gate

So, Hamiltonians, gear up for some patience-testing traffic changes, but remember, it’s all for a good cause. By next summer, we'll be cruising down newly improved streets with fancy bike lanes and accessible sidewalks. Until then, let's embrace the construction chaos together—after all, "Together Aspire – Together Achieve," right? Stay safe and drive smart, Hamilton! 🚧🚗
